Federalism is a dinosaur, it simply does not work

Federalism, today, is an attempt to recuperate a bunch of patched and re-patched historical mistakes. Our ancestors had an agenda, political and material interests, and invaded each other in turns. They only thought of winning, no matter what. Today's Canadians mainly think about living a comfortable, honest life, and that is commendable. Federalism is a form of conservatism: trying to save the furniture, to minimize the fact that Canada is a badly sewn quilt.

What I propose is a Canadian federation of autonomous nations. Each province and territory already knows how to take care of its people so... Why not? And Canada would merely take care of common expenses, defence and money. Just like the European Federation.

If every province and territory became an autonomous nation, while remaining in some way Canadian, there would not be any feeling of injustice any more. British Columbia and Alberta feel that Ontario decides their fate, Quebec wonders why it should share the cake with other provinces, and so on. There wouldn't be any more fighting amongst younger and older brothers.

I have become a federationist. I would like to see a federation of autonomous nations helping each other, in respect and collaboration.
